After The Rain

David Stewart 1996

Also known as 'Flood', this is a clever, subtle piece which can be found up on High Bowkerstead. Designed to resemble the half-sunken ruins of a lost ancient civilisation, 'After the Rain' has a real air of mystery about it, making it an atmospheric, enigmatic piece.

You'll notice I used the present tense there - the sculpture is still alive and kicking, in spite of the forestry activity which has happened around it in recent years.

The fresh trees have grown up now, meaning it is accessible once again, after a few years of being hidden away in the undergrowth. It has accrued some moss in that time, but this only adds to the sense of wonder about the work, as it pokes out through the forest floor.
