Picket Fence

Gregory Scott-Gurner 1998

The surprise factor of finding your archetypal suburban enclosure transported to a Cumbrian wilderness is perhaps ruined slightly by the spoiler-ific title, so maybe it's best to call it by its alternate name of 'Please Close The Gate'. Either way, Gregory Scott-Gurner's 1998 sculpture 'Picket Fence' is a fun addition to Grizedale's collection, and is still there today, getting plenty more views now that the ever-expanding Go Ape passes right by it.

Gurner was fresh out of a degree at the Cumbria College of Art and Design when he came to Grizedale, making two sculptures in the process. 'Picket Fence' originally had gold-topped fence posts, presumably with the paint left over from his other work, 'Touchstone'.
