Pinnacles

Giles Kent's residency at Grizedale was his first project after graduating from the University of East London with a degree in Fine Art. While in the forest he created three subtle-yet-effective pieces which quietly complimented the landscape around them. He said of his time in Cumbria in 1996:
"My sculptures at Grizedale have been created in reference to the conifers. Through the use of repetition and simplicity I hope to give my sculptures a presence similar to that of the surrounding trees."
Although the guides say 'Pinnacles', this name was in fact a result of Bill Grant pushing Kent into coming up with some more accessible names (see also 'Columns'). The sculpture is actually called 'Sitka Spruce Trunks, Highest 8 Feet/2.4m Out of Water' - a title which saves me the job of describing the dimensions of the work. It was located in Juniper Tarn, a small pool two minutes walk away from the car park at Moor Top.
