Light Column III

Charles Bray 1995

Light Column III stands next to Light Column II and is the one on the left if you are looking at them from the road. It is the final column in the trilogy by master artist Charles Bray.

Bray served in the Royal Navy during World War II, as an eighteen year old. He was a member of the crew of the battleship HMS Rodney, which in 1941 helped to sink the famous German battleship the Bismarck. After the war he became a teacher, before falling into art and crafts later on and becoming a renowned artist. Private collectors of his output apparently include Constantine II, the final king of Greece before the monarchy was abolished in 1973.

Charles Bray died in 2012 and an obituary at www.charlesbray.wordpress.com reads:

"His work, accomplishments and writings will ensure he is not forgotten. As will his loving family who will miss dearly not the man who helped pave the way for glass artistry, but the father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved telling stories and quietly pottering about."
