Water Wheel

Antony Holloway 1993

A wooden waterwheel, decorated with ornate carvings of animals in the style of Holloway's 'Living Wood', this could be found further up the river from the 'Deer Hunter', at Farra Grain. It would spin very quickly when the water was high. Holloway said of the sculpture:

"Water is an essential life-giving element in nature's complex network of inter-related cycles. It is fitting that it should rotate the days, seasons and lives on the wheel. The wheel is like the relentlessly beating heart of a living forest."

You'd think the water would keep this fresh, but it disappeared in the late nineties, sadly. On earlier guides it was known as the 'Magic Wheel', then it was '(Magical) Water Wheel', before they dropped the magic bit altogether.
