Steve Blaylock's metal sculptures added some glamour to the Ridding Wood Trail between 2005 and 2010. The Owl was the first one you would encounter and was utterly unmissable unless you had your face buried in your map. It sat on a tree stump next to 'The Sheltered Seat' and was mightily impressive. Blaylock is also responsible for the metal bird which sits by the visitor centre at Whinlatter, the Lake District's other major forest.
