Trophies

Robert Koenig 1982

'Trophies' was part of a three-sculpture set, which, alongside 'Triangular Suspension' and 'Multiple Arch', were placed together as the remains of the workings of prehistoric man. Koenig's own recollections of 'Trophies' describe the piece as being:

"A constructed arch assembled using three long and slim oak trunks. Along the central horizontal element there were four suspended oak shapes looking a little like shillelaghs or cudgels. Overall height around 10ft.

The Trophies was the second piece. Again I was suspending elements. They were worked with a chainsaw. The bulbous sections of each suspended piece were part of the break, the so-called break in a branch, where a branch starts to fork out, it gave a larger area to work."
