Hunter Killer

John Atkin 1988

'Hunter Killer' was positioned on the road north of Grizedale Tarn, just around the corner from 'Red Sandstone Fox', and was the work of John Atkin.

Atkin would later go on to enjoy great success in the world of sculpture, but 'Hunter Killer' was one of his earliest public works. Atkin specialises in civic regeneration projects and in 2008 he was selected to provide a piece for Beijing's Olympic Park to commemorate that summer's Olympic Games being held in the city. The result was 'Strange Meeting' - a two-piece marble edifice which framed the local architecture in different ways depending on which side it was viewed from. The finished article weighed in at a whopping twenty-seven tons, a big ask even for an Olympiad.

Atkin's latest project is a large public artwork in Toronto, Canada, which you can have a look at here.
