Shootin' Moose
Andy Frost 1985
Andy Frost's brilliantly barmy 'Shootin' Moose' sat perched on a bit of dry stone wall, halfway up the forest road that leads to Bogle Crag, sandwiched inbetween two of his other sculptures, until it was removed around the turn of the century.
An oversized moose head fashioned into the butt of a gun which was firing into the trees, the piece was quite something to stumble across on a woodland walk. The trigger was attached in a way that enabled it to be pulled, which was, let's face it, pretty cool. The sculpture, as Andy Frost himself put it:
"Peers out of the forest whilst a gun shoots and frightens any nasty creatures lurking in the silent darkness of the trees."
