Larch Wave Seat

Nigel Ross 1995

Larch Wave Seat, one of two wavy resting places by Nigel Ross, is located about halfway up the stony track near the visitor centre, just past 'Quarry Structure'. It has good views across the valley, and opposite is a small permissive path through the neighbouring fields.

Nigel Ross has built many benches like this one in his time. On his website he explains his methodology further:

"My art developed... with the rhythms and energy of nature being an inspiration... I sculpt from lengths of fallen trees creating abstract forms, sometimes with a functional element."

This path used to be part of the Silurian Way, but that has since changed and the route is now just another track, albeit a stony, potentially ankle-spraining one. It forms part of what is locally known as 'Green Lane', a route going from the visitor centre, over the top past the 'Red Sandstone Fox' and down the other side to the Dale Park area, passing a large tarn on the way, one which isn't marked on the map.
