Time Mirror

Di Mainstone 2018

Originally on display at Blackwell, the Arts and Crafts House near Bowness, Di Mainstone's 'Time Mirror' now finds itself on that opening stretch of the Ridding Wood Trail, overlooking the field. Looking through the lens yields a kaleidoscopic view of the valley and is described on Mainstone's website as being:

"An interactive sculpture, made from polished steel... The piece allows audiences of all ages to experience and capture the cultural landscape in an experimental and abstract way.

Time Mirror is 'Blackwell Blue', inspired by the colour blue of the peacock frieze and tiles inside Blackwell, as well as the artist Yves Klein."

Based in Shoreditch, Di Mainstone describes herself as a 'movician' - a player of hybrid musical instruments that exist as a result of her tinkerings. It's difficult to explain in mere words, but a good example is her 'Human Harp' project which turned New York's Brooklyn Bridge into a giant harp, and later did the same for the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol.

'Time Mirror is somewhat unique amongst Mainstone's output, in that it concerns itself more with the visual side of things.
