Caged Wall

Kees Bierman 1986

Caged Wall could be found upon reaching the forest road, at the top of the long, stony track which climbs from the visitor centre. An impressive piece, Bierman said of it at the time:

"A preserved dry stone wall is almost forgotten in a fast-growing forest. I trapped and made inaccessible a section of the wall in a cage made of black-tarred tree tops. The cage gives the wall a special meaning and so both elements, cage and wall, were combined into a new image - Caged Wall."

I only saw 'Caged Wall' a couple of times, but feel lucky to have seen it. Not long after, it was removed and the wall was liberated. From the look of the sculpture list on the 1988 map, it seems it was originally called 'Wallcave'.
