An Enlightened Stand
Donald Urquhart 1998
For 'An Enlightened Stand', Donald Urquhart used tiny chips of Dolomite marble to create a square patch of ground, upon which an imaginary light source casts shadows of the trees across the forest floor. From a distance it looked like there had been an incredibly localised snowstorm.
The stones were held in place with a wooden framework and the effect was at its most impressive when the work was brand new. Falling pine needles, animals and walking boots have all conspired to scatter and cover the piece, to the point where it is now pretty much gone. You can still trace the remains though, just near the river at Farra Grain.
