Red Curtain

Barnaby Hosking 2001

'Red Curtain' was installed by Barnaby Hosking in 2001 as part of the 'new wave' (they would hate that term) of artists brought in by Adam Sutherland. It was, as you may be able to guess, a red curtain, hidden in the trees. There was nothing else to it, it just sort of hung there in a weirdly unsettling way.

It lasted a while, longer than the artist intended certainly, but the famed Lake District weather did for it in the end. The final time I saw it, it was beginning to sag badly under the weight of all the rainwater it had soaked up.
