Pyxis
Del Geist 1986
On his website, Del Geist describes 'Pyxis' as being the point where "Silurian slate centred the energy of an old stone quarry". Built in 1986, it is a small but perfectly-formed stone square, sitting in a little hollow, just off the path as you begin to climb Carron Crag proper, when approaching from the north. It lends the area a mystical air, and it looks, to the untrained eye, like some ancient ritual site.
Del Geist's residency was in 1986, around the same time Patricia Leighton was busy making Silurian Cant and Vigil, and the two went on to become regular collaborators, most recently on a piece entitled 'Bowfort Towers' in the Canadian city of Calgary.
