A series of photographs suspended from the trees near the beginning of the Silurian Way, Mike's Smallcombe's piece was originally on display in Haldon Forest in Devon, then at Kielder Forest, Northumberland, before making its way to Grizedale in August 2009. The pictures measured eight feet by six feet and Smallcombe spoke to the Northumberland Gazette during the stint at Kielder, saying:

"Ghosts in the Wood features images of imagined stories of local people in rural settings that reflect the sometimes harsh realities of country life. They also reflect the need of the imagination to flourish through myth and altered reality."
